Expense Wave — Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 30, 2026

This policy describes how the Expense Wave Android app collects, uses, stores and shares your information. It supplements the general Amuse Apps Lab Privacy Policy. By using Expense Wave you agree to this policy.

1. Account & Sign-In

Expense Wave uses Google Sign-In to create your account. When you sign in we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We use this only to identify your account, sync your data across your devices, and show your name/avatar to other members of Circles you join.

2. Data You Create

The app stores the financial data you enter — expenses, income, categories, notes, salary-cycle settings and shared-expense records. This data is saved on your device and, when you are online, synced to our secure backend so it is available across your devices and to members of your Circles.

3. Shared Circles

A Circle is a private group you create or join to split expenses. Expenses, amounts, notes and balances you add to a Circle are visible to the other members of that Circle, along with your name and avatar. Only add to a Circle what you are comfortable sharing with its members. Circle owners can manage membership.

4. How Your Data Is Stored

Data is stored locally on your device and in our cloud backend hosted on Supabase (authentication, database and secure functions). Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We do not sell your personal data.

If you enable App Lock, unlocking the app uses your device's built-in biometric or PIN prompt. That authentication is handled entirely by your operating system — the app never sees or stores your fingerprint, face, or PIN.

5. Notifications

To alert you when a member adds an expense to your Circle, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google). A device push token is stored so we can deliver these notifications. You can turn Circle notifications off any time in Settings, or in your device's app settings.

We also schedule optional local reminders on your device for recurring entries and bills you set up. These reminders are generated and delivered entirely on your device — no data leaves it for this purpose. On Android 13 and later, showing reminders requires the notification permission, which you can grant or revoke at any time.

6. Voice Entry & Microphone

The optional Voice Entry feature uses your device's built-in speech recognition to turn speech (e.g. "Petrol 500") into a draft expense that you review before saving. The microphone is used only while you are actively recording. We do not store or upload your audio; only the recognized text is used, on your device.

7. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of the app displays ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may collect your advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location and ad-interaction data. Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy.

8. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We share data only as needed to run the app: with Supabase (backend & authentication), Google (Sign-In, Firebase Cloud Messaging and AdMob), and with the members of Circles you choose to join. We do not sell your data or share it with other third parties.

9. Your Choices & Data Deletion

You can edit or delete individual entries at any time. You can delete your account and associated data from within the app; this removes your synced personal data from our backend. You may also request deletion by emailing us. Removing yourself from a Circle stops future sharing with that group.

You can also export your data: your personal transactions, and the activity of any Circle, can be exported as a CSV file to back up or share. The file is generated on your device, and you choose where it goes.

10. Children's Privacy

Expense Wave is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last Updated" date.
